The Betty White Challenge: Changing lives and honouring a friend to the animals

General News

Betty White was not only a beloved actress and comedian – she was also a devoted animal lover and fearless advocate.

To honour her memory and ensure her legacy lives on, fans across the globe are joining the Betty White Challenge. Taking part on January 17th – which would have been the late star’s 100th birthday – the challenge encourages people to donate to an animal shelter or rescue in her memory.

As we reflect and remember Betty’s commitment to creating a better world for animals, we’re shining a spotlight on some of the ways you can get involved and make a difference to the lives of lost and abandoned animals at The Lost Dogs’ Home.

Donate

Without the kind support of our wonderful donors, we wouldn’t be able to provide shelter and care to the 13,000 animals who come through our doors each year. From surgery and veterinary care, to behaviour training and foster care, to adoption and a lifetime of happiness – all this is made possible thanks to donations from animal lovers like you.

Whether you can give a little or a lot, every bit helps provide vital care to lost and abandoned dogs and cats. If you’d like to make a donation in memory of Betty White, click here.

Adopt

Shelter pets are just as wonderful as any other pet, and just as deserving of a loving home. By pledging to adopt your next pet from a shelter like the Lost Dogs’ Home, you’ll be giving an animal a second chance at happiness. You’ll also have peace of mind knowing you aren’t supporting cruel puppy farms or unethical backyard breeders. Best of all, you’ll be gaining a loving and loyal companion for life. Our dogs and cats are patiently waiting to find a loving forever home, just like yours.

Foster

Help a shelter pet along their journey by providing a loving, temporary foster home. If you want to share your home with a pet but aren’t ready to adopt, foster care could be perfect for you. We’ll match you with a dog, cat or kitten who needs some rest and relaxation in a home environment. Foster pets may be too young for adoption, underweight, recovering from surgery, or need some extra TLC outside of the busy shelter.

Foster care is temporary, so we’ll take the animal back once they’re ready to find a permanent home. We’ll take care of the animal’s food and vet treatment, so the only things you’ll need to provide are time and love. Read more about our Foster Care Program.

Volunteer

Research has shown that volunteering can help us live healthier, happier lives. By volunteering your time, you’ll be helping us change the lives of dogs and cats in need. A variety of volunteer roles become available throughout the year, to suit a wide range of skillsets. You’ll get to make a difference to a cause you’re passionate about, meet like-minded animal lovers, and gain invaluable hands-on experience.

Donate goods for shelter pets

Your donation of pet supplies can help provide comfort and enrichment to the animals in our shelters and foster homes. As a charity that receives no ongoing government funding, every donated item means vital funds can be redirected to veterinary and other essential care.

For drop-off locations and a list of the items we gratefully accept, visit our Donate Goods page.
