Dog adoptions launched at The Lost Dogs’ Home Cranbourne site

The Lost Dogs’ Home has responded to community need by expanding its dog adoption services to its Cranbourne shelter.

Prior to this only cats were adopted from Cranbourne with dogs being adopted at our North Melbourne site only.

The Home’s Spokesperson, Suzana Talevski, said while the majority of dog adoptions will still be carried out at the North Melbourne site for dogs with medical or behavioural issues, the expansion means closer access to dogs up for adoption for people living in one of Melbourne’s fastest growing corridors.

“This is a win-win for both the community and doggos. It means people will have to travel less and the dogs that don’t need to go to North Melbourne will be adopted without the stress of travelling.”

Adoptions will still be appointment only as per current processes for cats.  “This will help find new homes for lost and abandoned animals and inspire the local community to adopt and change the life of a shelter pet.”

Hero was less than five months old when he was recently left tied to the fence at our Cranbourne shelter. Our team wasted no time checking him over to make sure he was ok.  Nobody came looking for Hero, so it was time to find him a home where he’d be loved and looked after forever. With his happy-go-lucky spirit, we knew it wouldn’t take long.

We’re pleased to let you know Hero has found the most kind and loving new family! They’re going to have so much fun learning and growing together. Hero was the first dog to be adopted from our new Cranbourne dog adoption area.

“Hero’s adoption is also special because it marks the expansion of our Dog Adoption Program. This will help find new homes for lost and abandoned animals like Hero and hopefully inspire the local community to adopt and change the life of a shelter pet,” said Ms Talevski.

New dogs will gradually become available for adoption at Cranbourne, supporting our main Dog Adoption Program at North Melbourne. For information on the adoption process and to view available dogs, visit https://bit.ly/ldhadoptadog

Thanks to our friends at Bunnings Warehouse Australia for donating the materials for our Cranbourne shelter’s new dog adoption area. It’s a special place where many lifelong friendships are about to begin.
