The best chance
for every animal

We work tirelessly to promote animal welfare, reuniting lost pets with their families; finding new homes for others; and doing all we can for the best possible outcome for companion animals.

The best chance
for every animal

About us

Each year we provide compassionate care to over 18,700 lost, stray and unwanted pets - that’s 51 animals every day. This care is provided through a holistic model of shelter, veterinary, behaviour, adoption, foster and reunification services.

Our Purpose

We care for lost dogs, cats and other companion animals. We reunite lost pets with their families, find new homes for others, and always seek the best possible outcomes for all animals that come into our care.

Our Vision

To give animals the best chance of a happy and healthy life.

115 years
of service

A group of people had the idea of establishing the Home to improve the welfare of lost and starving dogs in 1910. They actively opposed the local councils' inhumane methods of poisoning and drowning stray dogs, and decided that more needed to be done to help the unwanted dogs of Melbourne.
