Dogs and cats of all ages and breeds found their forever home as Victorians opened their hearts and homes to more animals than ever.
Melbourne’s love affair with companion animals reached a staggering new high which included 400 cats meow their way into new homes.
Spokesperson for The Home, Suzana Talevski, said it appeared attitudes had shifted to a more positive outlook for rescue animals since COVID and that pets were reaping the benefits.
“We think the numbers could be reflective of how priorities and attitudes have changed since COVID. People have re-evaluated their lives in many cases and decided to focus on family, friendships and relationships. It is more about what feeds the soul and animals certainly do that,’’ said Ms Talevski.
The month of April also saw almost 400 pets reunited with their families through our reclaims unit.
“Pets are invaluable part of the family fabric in our lives and we feel our lives are much richer when a pet is part of our family,’’ said Ms Talevski.
“We know how stressful it is to lose a pet and cannot understate the importance of making sure your furry friend is microchipped and that your details on the microchip are updated regularly.”
