As an open-intake shelter, The Lost Dogs’ Home will never turn away a pet in need.

But, with over 700 cats and kittens currently in care and more arriving every day, we’re fast facing crisis point with our shelters at capacity.

To help our felines find new homes and create critical space at our shelters, we’re urging Melburnians to adopt or spread the word and help us Clear the Cat Shelter.

From Monday 18 January, we’re reducing our adoption fees for adult cats and pairs of kittens at our North Melbourne and Cranbourne shelters.

Adult cat $25: With their unique personalities, there’s a lot to love about adult cats. Around 64% of felines currently in our care are adults. At this time of year, adult cats typically spend well over a month waiting to find a home, so they need your help the most. Often overlooked in favour of kittens, you’ll probably find that an adult cat is actually the perfect pet for you. Read our Top 10 reasons to adopt an adult cat.

Pair of kittens $235: Our Mates Rates fee aims to help keep bonded kittens together. By adopting a pair of kitten mates, your little ones will always have companionship and a playmate by their side, especially when you’re not home. Plus, you’ll be rewarded with twice the love.

Single kittens will be available for the standard adoption fee of $235.

During Clear the Cat Shelter, our thorough adoption process still applies to ensure all pets are matched with committed families who are able to offer a suitable home and lifetime of care.

Cats and kittens will stay in our adoptions centre for as long as it takes to find them a home, but we’d love for this to happen as soon as possible.

Once your enquiry has been received, our team will be in touch as soon as possible to schedule your adoption appointment. Your patience is appreciated while we work through what we expect and hope to be a high volume of enquiries.

Please note that all adoptions are by appointment only. We are not able to accommodate walk-ins at this time.

There’s a chance the cat or kitten you enquired about may have already been adopted by the time your appointment takes place. Don’t despair! With new cats and kittens becoming available almost every day, you’re sure to find your perfect match.
