A cat obsessed with butter and another with egg yolk sounds like a recipe for some serious in-house shenanigans!
And that’s exactly what the doctor ordered at Shane Huntington’s house.
Shane, an Ambassador for The Lost Dogs’ Home says despite some reports that cats resent their owners for being home more often during lockdown, it is the complete opposite for Tilly and Dax who love being so close to the hoomans!
“They have probably bonded with us a lot more deeply as a result of the added time we with have with them. We are separated from family which is really hard – that part I try not to think about,’’ he says.
‘’If I leave the house for more than 10 minutes they are at the door when I come back looking like I betrayed them. If I close the bathroom door to have a shower they try and roll it open with their little paws to see where I have gone.
Our cats are so affectionate. When my boys go to bed at night the cats will hide under their beds in the hope that I don’t see them, and they will get to sleep with the kids.’’
Shane believes a variety of enrichment strategies is key to a happy home environment both for your pets and humans.
“We keep good routines with our cats. They know when they get fed. They know how to get affection. We make sure they have special spaces and we keep rotating their toys to keep their interest. A lot of home shopping supplies them with an endless series of boxes which they play with often. Our cats have such distinct personalities, it’s like having a couple of extra people in the house which is lovely. We treat them a lot, probably more than we should,’’ he says.
‘’One of my cats is obsessed with egg yolk, and the other with butter. They seem to know when I am about to get them from the fridge. On occasion I accidentally let them have some, it keeps things interesting.’’
