THIS ADOPTION DRIVE HAS ENDED. REDUCED ADOPTION FEES ARE NO LONGER AVAILABLE. READ MORE HERE.
As an open-intake shelter, The Lost Dogs’ Home will never turn away a pet in need.
But, with 900 cats and kittens currently in care and more arriving every day, we’re facing crisis point with our shelters at capacity.
To help our cats find new homes and create critical space at our shelters, we’re launching a special adoption drive and urging Melburnians to adopt or spread the word.
From Tuesday 13 April, adoption fees for adult cats (aged four months and over) are reduced to $20.
With their unique personalities, there’s a lot to love about adult cats. Sadly though, they’re often overlooked in favour of kittens and spend much longer waiting to be adopted. At this time of year during kitten season, adult cats typically spend well over a month waiting to find a home, so they need your help the most.
During our special adoption drives, our thorough adoption process still applies to ensure all cats are matched with committed families able to offer a suitable home and meet the animal’s ongoing needs.
Our cats will stay in our adoptions centre for as long as it takes to be adopted, but we’d love for them to find loving forever homes as soon as possible.
Single kittens are still available to adopt for the standard adoption fee of $235.
Appointments are not essential for cat adoptions. Walk-ins are welcome during our adoption opening hours. Appointments are still required for dog adoptions.
To protect everyone’s health and safety, there is a limit on how many people can be in our adoptions centre at the same time. If you visit as a walk-in to adopt a cat, there may be a wait. We will not be able to provide estimated wait times for walk-ins, as this will vary from day to day.
Alternatively, you can make an appointment to adopt a cat. Please use the below links to submit an enquiry for an appointment:

There’s a chance the cat you’re interested in may have already been adopted by the time you visit the adoptions centre. Don’t despair! With new cats becoming available almost every day, you’re sure to find your perfect match.
If you’ve already got a full house or simply aren’t in a position to adopt right now, you can still help find loving forever homes for our adult cats. Please spread the word among your family, friends and colleagues. Be sure to mention the joys of adopting a shelter cat, and the urgent need to find homes for these deserving felines.
Note: This special adoption drive will run for a limited time only.
