Visitors to Melbourne’s The Lost Dogs’ Home has more than doubled since the doors to the public swung open at one of the state’s biggest and oldest animal shelters.
For the first time in two years, The Lost Dogs’ Home has moved away from the COVID required appointment system in its adoption centres, allowing the public to walk in and find a new family member.
Most pleasing was the number of cats adopted in the first quarter of the year rose by almost 49 per cent compared to the same time last year. ‘’We are still in the midst of a very heavy kitten season so getting these beautiful cats in forever homes is crucial and we thank the community for getting on board,’’ said The Home’s spokesperson Suzana Talevski.
The number of dogs adopted increased by a whopping 62 per cent.
‘’It is clear animal lovers were craving that human interaction with our staff that online services were not fulfilling as necessary as they were,’’ said Ms Talevski.
‘’Victorian’s love with their furry companions is now stronger than ever and we couldn’t be happier. What is even more pleasing is the return rate of animals is less than five per cent of what we are adopting out.
“It’s fantastic to be able to open our doors once again for walk ins in our adoption facilities. We know the community have missed them. Adopting from the Lost Dogs’ Home is a tradition in many families across the State and we look forward to welcoming our supporters back to our shelters,” said Ms Talevski.
