This handsome scarlet gentleman is ready to steal your heart and your snacks.

At almost 2 years old, Clifford is not your average retriever. Weighing in at a lean 42kg, this big boy is likely crossed with a majestic livestock guardian breed, making him as unique as he is impressive. With nicknames like "Cliffosaurus Rex", "Cliffius Maximus", and "Big Red", Clifford's larger-than-life presence is matched only by his affectionate nature.



Clifford is currently enrolled in The Home's behaviour program, where he's been working with our shelter trainers to build his confidence with new people and places. Initially wary and overwhelmed, Clifford has made remarkable progress, now eagerly leaning into scritches and seeking affection from those he trusts.


Cliffy has also been working on not letting his fear and frustration towards other dogs get the best of him. While he excels in his training, it's important to note that he prefers the company of humans over other dogs. Contrary to popular "dogs must have" theories, Cliff does not want or need dog friends. Additionally, Clifford's strong personality and curiosity for small creatures mean he's better suited somewhere he can avoid encounters with cats and other small animals. So, his ideal forever home will be one where he can be the centre of attention, without the distraction of other pets.



As strong as he is affectionate, Clifford is a tug-of-war champion! You won't need a gym membership when there's this man in your life. He has been working on and acing his leash manners, although his enthusiasm for exploration may occasionally get the best of him, so his new person should be prepared for the potential walk with (or by) Clifford the Tank Engine!



But beneath his grand exterior lies a heart of gold. Clifford is a big puppy at heart, eager to express his dorky and playful personality. Whether he's gallivanting around with his favourite squeaky toy or demanding affection from his favourite humans, Clifford's goofy nature is contagious



Clifford truly holds a special place in his trainer's heart (and with a face like his, can you blame her?); when they see each other they light up each other's day, cherishing their time together - Now that he's ready to find his forever family, although he requires a bit of extra effort, whoever gets the pleasure of bringing this gorgeous baby bear home will experience the unmatched loyalty, love, full-body workout, and "wiggle worm love bug" that is unmatched by any other
