Make sure the animals in your life are loved and cared for after you’re gone.
Something that concerns many animal lovers is what will happen to their beloved cats and dogs after they pass away. No one knows your pets quite like you do, which is why it is a good idea to let your family and friends know what you would like to happen to the animals in your life should something ever happen to you.
Including clear instructions in your Will for who will care for your pets provides you with the peace of mind that they will be well looked after when you are gone and no longer able to care for them. Expressing your wishes and documenting a clear, helpful plan for how your pets should be cared for can also be helpful for your family, friends and the executor of your estate.
We strongly recommend talking to your solicitor to ensure you include clear instructions and arrangements for the future care of your beloved animals in your Will.

Your Pet’s Profile
Whatever instructions you choose to give about the future care of your pet when you’re no longer there, the next step to help them settle into their new lives is to create a practical ‘pet profile’. Making sure you add in all the special details about your pet’s care. This will help your pet’s future caregivers understand their unique needs and preferences.
Emergency Pet Care Plan
It’s one thing to make plans for what you want to happen with your pets after you’ve passed away, but having a similar plan in place for your pets in the case of emergencies is also crucial. Knowing that they’ll be safe and looked after if you’re taken into hospital or if you suddenly become too ill to care for them yourself, will avoid any extra worry in what is likely to be an already stressful time.
An ‘Emergency Pet Care Plan’ is simply a written list of all your pet’s important information including their diet, exercise routine, toileting needs, and any medications they may need.
