Blue-heelers are known for being the quintessential Aussie best mate. Originally bred to herd cattle in tough terrain, these dogs are known for being as tough as old boots.
With high energy, nerves of steel and a natural ability to herd, a dog like Patch has no place here in the shelter. At 7 years old, Patch was surrendered to our care just over a month ago and is ready to find his new family.
Patch is looking for a family that understands heelers and their gritty nature. Patch inherently carries all the traits of a typical heeler: intelligent, food motivated and an innate instinct to herd.
Although these qualities make him the perfect working breed dog, Patch struggles to regulate his instincts in a home environment. Because of this, Patch would need to go home to an adults-only household that has experience with working breed dogs.
Patch can start as quite shy and stand-offish, but over time, has shown the ability to bond and make connections with staff here at the shelter, and we have no doubt that with the right foundation, Patch would make the perfect companion. At his core, Patch truly just wants to find his best mate.
Whilst in care, Patch has shown some extremely pro-social behaviour towards other dogs, but for now would need to be the only dog in the household whilst he learns the ropes!
So if you have a love for strong-willed, tough Aussie dogs, come on down to North Melbourne and meet Patch today. Who knows? Maybe he is the best mate you have been waiting for!
