Abandoned but not broken, Possum is a little 20kg Staffordshire Terrier who has already endured more than her fair share of life's hardships. Left behind at a property by her previous owners, she arrived in our care understandably timid, unsure, and in need of kindness. But beneath that cautious exterior is a truly sweet, soft-natured dog just waiting for someone to show her the world isn't so scary after all.
Possum is looking for a calm, patient home where she can finally exhale and just be a dog. Because of her sensitive nature, we're seeking a household without little hands that can be unpredictable, and Possum needs predictability right now. She finds other animals a bit overwhelming and will do best as your one-and-only.
This girl doesn't want much - just a quiet corner, a gentle routine, and a human who understands that progress is measured in tail wags and trusting glances. Possum will need slow introductions to new people, places, and experiences - and that's not a flaw. That's a chance. A chance for you to be the one who helps her discover that the world has soft blankets, tasty treats, and kind humans too.
Whether it's learning how to walk confidently through the neighborhood or just realising that the couch is a safe place to nap, dogs like Possum give you something truly special: the gift of growth. And watching her bloom? That's the real reward.
Possum isn't the type of dog who will come bounding into your arms on day one. But give her time, love, and a little space, and you'll be amazed at how she transforms.
She may start off as a shadow in the corner, but one day soon, she'll be curled up at your feet, finally feeling at home.
If you have the heart to help a timid dog find her courage, then Possum is waiting for you.
Come meet her at The Lost Dogs' Home North Melbourne and help her write her next chapter.
