A little bit about Groot

Where do you even start with a big boy like Groot?

This man is a whopping 84 kilograms, yes, 84. EIGHTY. FOUR. KILO. GRAMS. 84,000 GRAMS of pure dog. Once more, 84 kilograms. This dog is roughly 5'10" standing up, and boy, does he stand.

This handsome man is not for the feint of heart, he is a BIG boy, and will need to go to an adults only home. Don't get us wrong, despite his massive size, he is a very very sweet soul, but he simply does not understand his size, and can be partial to jumping up to give you a hug and say hello.

Groot came into our care as a surrender through no fault of his own, as his previous owner was no longer able to care for him. His previous owner has told us that he has lived with an itty bitty jack russlel terrier before, and that he is ok being picked up. We aren't exactly sure who is picking Groot up, but if you were looking for a home gym barbell Groot may just be your man.

Groot is also a smart boy, he knows 'sit' and 'down' and has a very sweet and gentle nature, he also just so happens to be as strong as a horse. Groot is also, unsurprisingly, VERY strong on lead, so he will need a family that is confident handling big boys like him.

While Groot is friendly with other dogs, he needs to be the only dog in the home initially, Groot still has some confidence building and manners to learn. Similarly, he needs to go to a family that will be able to manage an 84kg dog around other dogs, even on walks, as he will pull towards other dogs to say hello. Groot will need to go home with a compulsory balance harness, if you do not bring your own at the time of adoption, you will need to purchase one at the shelter!

If Groot seems like the special little guy for you, come down to our North Melbourne shelter and meet him today!

Groot Xx
