Introducing our fluffy big baby...Mimi!!!
This beautiful girl is a Maremma Sheepdog, and while she may look like any other cuddly and cute pup, they are actually a very unique breed with some important requirements. Maremma's have been carefully bred over the centuries to be livestock guardians, and like Liam Neeson in Taken they have "a very particular set of skills"...
Mimi is a very independent and intelligent pup. Over time, she is likely to become affectionate with her new family, but she is quite reserved around unfamiliar people. Maremmas are known to be strong-willed, which means they can take time to train and learn new skills. Mimi would do best with someone who has experience and familiarity with this breed.
Being a Maremma, Mimi would love to live on a fair bit of land where she has lots of room to roam around and enjoy life, while also spending time with her favourite humans for an occasional snooze on the couch or play outside. In general, Mimi is pretty happy to do her own thing and would love adopters who can respect her boundaries and space.
Mimi often feels conflicted and nervous when being handled, and she needs her adopters to take things slow and help her build confidence in this area. Due to this, it is best that she share a home with older teens and adults (16+) only.
Mimi can also feel conflicted when it comes to meeting unfamiliar dogs, but she may be suitable to live with another well-matched doggy sibling. If you have a dog at home, make sure to bring them along to the shelter to do a meet and greet with Mimi. Even if you don't have another dog at home, it is important that if Mimi is meeting other dogs in the future you take the introductions very slowly and make sure it is a gradual and positive experience.
If you think that Mimi could be the perfect addition to your life, please come down to the shelter to meet her today!
