A little bit about Dusty

Say hello to the handsome and sweet, Dusty!

Dusty is a beautiful English Pointer who was in a bit of a rough state when he came into our care - he was severely underweight and needed a lot of attention and care to get him all ready for adoption. He has been improving ever since, and is now ready for an adopter to give him a second chance! Could it be you?!

Dusty spent time in foster care to gain weight and confidence and have some respite from the shelter. He settled in well to home life, and put on some pounds, which we love to see! He still needs to gain a bit more weight, so one of our lovely vets will chat to about a feeding plan for the home.

While in foster care, Dusty lived with another dog and exhibited resource guarding behaviours over his food and water. Given the condition that Dusty came into us, this makes sense, however based on this behavior, our recommendation is for Dusty to be the only dog in the home and to go into a home with secondary aged children or older. This gives him the opportunity to settle in without having to worry about protecting his resources. This also means that he gets to be the centre of all of your love and affection, which, let's be honest, this good boy deserves!

Despite his condition when arriving into the shelter, Dusty remains a sweet and lovable pup and will surely make a wonderful addition to the family. He will thrive in a home that is dedicated to his continued training, especially regarding impulse control and resource guarding. He is very treat motivated (maybe a little too much?) and just needs to learn to keep all 4 paws on the ground. He just really wants the treats!!!

During his time in care, Dusty has undergone dental surgery to remove a couple of teeth that were not so healthy, so at-home dental care is recommended ongoing. He also had a little bit of dermatitis on his inner elbows which has been improving while he has been with us. Our friendly adoption staff will go through these with you in the shelter when you come in to meet him.
