Red Phoenix lands in his new home

July 12, 2015

Every now and then a cat or dog comes into our care who takes a little longer to find the right home. In April we introduced you to the gentle, six year-old ginger cat, Red Phoenix, or Red as he is affectionately known. For more than 240 days Red watched as his shelter companions found their forever homes, while he continued to wait patiently for his perfect owners to come through the shelter doors.

Red’s luck changed at the end of June when Jeremy and Shelley came into The Lost Dogs’ Home to find a new addition for their family.

For Jeremy and Shelley, they knew Red would be the perfect match for them after seeing the adventurous moggy’s profile on the Home’s website.

“We recently moved house, and a sad moment for us was when we had to say good bye to our neighbour’s beautiful ginger cat, who we were quite attached to.

“After the move we were on the lookout for a ginger cat to call our own and when we saw Red on The Lost Dogs’ Home website we thought he looked adorable; plus, it was a great opportunity for us to give a shelter cat a new loving home,” said Jeremy.

Red with Jeremy and ShellyOn the day Jeremy and Shelley came into the Home’s North Melbourne Shelter they found that the shelter staff had grown attached to Red and were happy to see the beloved feline find a new home.

“When we were told that Red had been at the shelter for nearly a year, we couldn’t believe it. Here was this lovely cat wandering around and looking for pats, showing so much affection towards everyone; it was hard to believe that he had been waiting to be adopted for so long.

“After talking to the cat attendant we knew that we had to take Red home with us and when we told the staff that we wanted to adopt him, they were over the moon!” said Shelley.

Now well and truly settled into his new home, Red is making the most of being the main feline in Jeremy and Shelley’s lives.

“He settled in very quickly and is now a very spoilt cat. Red loves playtime and it is always funny seeing the big guy slide along the floor when he is chasing his toys.

“Red has such a great nature; he is a little explorer who loves to play with his toys. We love coming home from work and getting a lot of affection from Red and in the mornings he loves to come in and give us smooches.

“He has brought so much joy to our lives; we are the luckiest people in the world to have Red.”

Even though Red has gone on to find his new home there are still a number of adult cats looking to find their perfect match.
