The Lost Dogs’ Home is pleased to announce that Sue Karzis has been appointed as the new Chair of the Board, effective 1 July 2025.
Sue brings a wealth of experience in the not-for-profit and education sectors, having most recently served as Chief Executive Officer of State Schools’ Relief from 2018 to 2024. Under her leadership, the organisation delivered record levels of support to over 94,000 financially disadvantaged students in Victoria in 2023/24 alone. Sue’s career has been defined by her commitment to equity and access, particularly for young people, through roles at Monash College and Trinity College, University of Melbourne.
A passionate animal lover, Sue shares her home with three rescue cats and has been a valued member of the Board since September 2024.
Simon Greaves will step down as Chair of the Board on 30 June 2025, after six years of dedicated service — the maximum term permitted under our constitution.
Simon has been a passionate and committed advocate for the Home and the welfare of animals throughout his tenure. Simon brought commercial acumen, strategic insight, and a deep love of animals to his leadership. A self-proclaimed “dog person,” Simon has supported the Home for many years and is the proud owner of two spoilt dogs — one of whom was adopted from the Home.
We sincerely thank Simon for his extraordinary contribution over the past six years and the positive impact he has made on the lives of countless animals in our care.
Simon Greaves said: “Sue brings a rare combination of executive experience, compassion, and strategic thinking — all of which make her exceptionally well-qualified to lead The Lost Dogs’ Home into its next chapter. I have every confidence in her leadership and the direction she will take the organisation.”
Sue Karzis said: “I’m honoured to step into the role of Chair and to continue the incredible work that Simon has led over the past six years. His commitment to the welfare of animals and his steady leadership have left a lasting legacy. I thank him sincerely for his contribution and look forward to building on that strong foundation with the Board and team.”
We look forward to this next chapter for The Lost Dogs’ Home under Sue’s leadership as we continue our mission to care for and rehome lost and abandoned animals across Victoria.
