Half-priced cat adoption campaign - June 2016

Picture this: it’s a chilly winters night and you’ve just kicked up your besocked feet to read a book or watch the box. You reach for a blanket, only to find that your partner, housemate or perhaps a friendly neighbourhood ghost has pinched it. Just as you’re rubbing your hands together to stay warm, suddenly a little creature jumps up on your chest! Is it a heat bag on legs? A purring hot-water bottle? No, it’s your newly adopted cat from The Lost Dogs’ Home! And, as your sweet little pal snuggles up to you it doesn’t take long before their warmth and love radiates straight from the heart and rapidly spreads, defrosting you from head to toe.

If you’re not the proud owner of an adopted fur friend, do not worry because this weekend is your chance to keep your winter woes at bay — with a stray!

Coinciding with the school holidays in Victoria, The Lost Dogs’ Home in North Melbourne is offering a half price discount on all feline adoptions! That means the adoption fee for adult cats is just $47.50 and $85 for kittens.

Cat Shelter Manager, Karina Bailey, said winter has proven to be a time when we behaved most like cats: “Our movements get slower, we spend more time indoors, enjoying a good meal, lounging about or snoozing on the couch. Some of us also feel the need to sleep longer.

“Winter is therefore the perfect time to enjoy the ‘great indoors’ with the company of a cat.”

With the children at home and plenty of time indoors, Ms Bailey said now was a particularly good time for families to adopt a cat.

“This is an ideal opportunity to welcome that cute cat or kitten you’ve wanted for some time.

Some parents will be taking time off work to be with the kids, which means you and your children will have valuable time connecting with and settling in your new family member.”

Ms Bailey urged those interested to come on down to the shelter to meet the candidates in person.

“We know we have many supporters who check the profiles of our adoption candidates regularly. If you’ve been considering to adopt for some time now, you will no doubt find your perfect match this weekend.

“Our newly renovated cat adoptions centre has plenty of room where you can spend time getting to know our cats in the fur.”

All adoption candidates come with a full health check-up, are vaccinated, desexed and microchipped and when added up, total well above their adoption fee.
