INFO: Training your new pet

February 21, 2016

Taking the time to train your dog is an important part of being a better pet owner. Not only does training have a number of benefits for your dog, it actually strengthens their bond with you too!

Training your puppy or dog gives you the opportunity to get to know and understand your new family member. From dog basic manners through to advanced agility, training your dog teaches them important life skills as well as keeping them mentally engaged.

Whether you have just brought home a new puppy, or adopted a dog from an animal shelter or rescue group, you should look to begin basic training right away.

At the end of the day, a well-trained dog is a happy and confident dog, which makes for a happy owner too!

On a recent edition of Pets-A-Loud on JOY 94.9, the team caught up with Dr Trepheena Hunter, Animal Behaviour Manager with The Lost Dogs’ Home to get some helpful tips on how to train your dog.

Remember, the most important thing when training your dog is patience. With some time and a little love, you’ll have a loyal, well trained companion on your hands.
