This World Animal Day, there are lots of ways you can make a difference to the lives of shelter pets.
Shelter pets are just as friendly, loving and smart as any other pet. If you’re ready to get a new pet, adopt from an animal shelter. There are so many dogs, puppies, cats, kittens and other animals in need of new homes.
By adopting, you’ll be giving an animal a second chance at happiness. You’ll also have peace of mind knowing you aren’t supporting cruel puppy farms or unethical backyard breeders. Plus, all pets adopted from the Home are health checked, desexed, microchipped, vaccinated, flea treated and wormed, which is all included in the adoption fee. Meet our adoptable dogs and cats today.
If you want to share your home with a pet but aren’t ready to adopt, foster care could be perfect for you. We’ll match you with a dog, cat, kitten or puppy who needs some time out in a home environment. They may be too young for adoption, underweight, recovering from surgery, or need extra TLC or training.
Foster care is temporary, so we’ll take the animal back once they’re ready to find a permanent home. We’ll cover all foster care expenses, so the only things you’ll need to provide are time and love. Read more about our Foster Care Program.
Without the generous support of our donors, we wouldn’t be able to provide shelter and care to the 26,000 animals who come through our doors each year. From veterinary care and behaviour training, to foster care and adoption, to community education and outreach, all of this is made possible thanks to the kindness of animal lovers like you.
Whether you can give a little or a lot, every bit helps. Find out how your contribution will make a difference and donate today.
Research has shown that volunteering can help us live healthier, happier lives. By volunteering your time to provide enrichment to our dogs and cats, you’ll help make their stay at the shelter as enjoyable as possible. You’ll also make a difference to a cause you’re passionate about, meet like-minded animal lovers, and gain invaluable hands-on experience.
If you’re on social media, follow your local animal shelters. Share the love by liking or commenting on posts and tagging your friends. It’s a simple, fast and free way to spread the word about shelter pets who need new homes. You can follow the Home on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.
