Colourful Clinkers

May 10, 2019

While every animal is precious to us at The Lost Dogs’ Home, sometimes we are introduced to creatures with extra special traits.

In April, staff at our North Melbourne shelter met Clinkers. This one-year-old boy almost defies the genetic odds with his unusual markings.  While he’s not a tortoiseshell, Clinker’s markings still make him a unique character.

According to studies by the University of Missouri, only one in 3000 tortoiseshell cats are male.

Cat colour is passed down through the X chromosome, making it difficult for male felines to inherit the gorgeous mix of black, gold and orange colours needed to be a tortoiseshell.

Clinkers is now ready for his next chapter in life and is looking for his forever home. He’s also very playful and loves other cats.
