Thank you Brisbane

August 26, 2014

After three rewarding years, The Lost Dogs’ Home is regretfully saying good-bye to Brisbane.

The Home has worked with Brisbane City Council as their animal management and pound services provider for Bracken Ridge and Willawong since 2011 and enjoyed a positive relationship with BCC and the Brisbane community. We have strived to make a positive difference for lost and abandoned animals as well as responsible pet ownership. We have also invested in upgrading shelter facilities to improve the comfort and wellbeing of the dogs and cats in care.

However, after long and careful consideration and with extensive, external developments planned for the Bracken Ridge (Warra) site, we have decided that the remoteness of the shelters — comparative to our headquarters in North Melbourne, Victoria — was ultimately not conducive to continue running two busy facilities efficiently and effectively. We will continue to work with Brisbane City Council for an additional six weeks (beyond our contract expiration date in September) up until 16 October to ensure a smooth transition of all shelter operations and most importantly; the animals in our care.

We want nothing more than to see our shelter animals find their forever homes before we exit. To assist with their rehoming, we are extending our Paw Mates promotion and are waiving the fee of adoption candidates who have been at the shelter for over three months, while offering half-price for all other cats and dogs in our adoption program.

Details of the promotion will be on our website this week.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank the dedicated staff at Bracken Ridge and Willawong who always went above and beyond in caring for the dogs and cats at the shelters. The Home will continue to support staff through this transition.

Please be assured that the comfort of our animals during this time is of the highest priority and we will be working closely with Council to ensure that our exiting is as smooth as possible.
