The Wilbur and Tinks Diaries, Part 3

It’s been a big few weeks for our famous little kittens, between getting their first vaccination last Monday, meeting new friends in their foster home and preparing to be put up for adoption!

Seven-week-old Wilbur and Tinks came to the Home after being discovered in a cracker box being couriered across the city. While small and very young, the little kittens were nonetheless in good health and were put into foster care to grow big and strong before going up for adoption. Last week, Foster Carer Amber brought the small fries into the Home’s veterinary clinic to receive their first vaccination and to check how much weight they were putting on.

We’re really pleased with their progress and how much they are growing,” Foster Coordinator Amanda Huggins said. “It seems Wilbur certainly likes his food; he went from weighing just 465g when he first arrived, to 820g at the last weigh-in.”

Tinks is steadily putting on weight too, although she’s still quite a bit smaller than her brother. She weighed 440g on arrival and now weighs 690g.”

Amanda said Tinks will need to be put on a little bit more weight before she gets desexed; however staff are hopeful the two kittens will be ready for adoption next week. Amber said she and her partner Dirk have grown very fond of them and will be sad to return them.

They just continue to get more and more wonderful,” she said. “By now they are very settled into the house, and have their favourite spots, including the arm of the couch where they get lots of warm afternoon sun!”

Amber said that with their increasing comfort in their foster home, the two kittens have become very smoochy too.

They will both curl up into our laps or onto our chests and just purr away and have a little nap,” Amber said. “Wilbur in particular has a lovely loud purr!”

And when a friend came to stay with Amber and Dirk, the confident little kittens took it in their stride and were soon snuggling up to her as well!

They’re still very playful too and entertained the three of us for hours,” Amber laughed. “We’re going to miss them when they go back next week but we know they’re going to find wonderful, loving homes and that makes us really happy.”
