Sunny: rescued from danger

This Christmas, The Lost Dogs’ Home will care for over 6,000 dogs and cats in need of care, shelter and veterinary treatment. Due to the current economic crisis we anticipate we will find getting through this Christmas even more challenging than in previous years.

Sunny was anything but the bright and sparky character his name suggests when he was rescued by The Lost Dogs’ Home Animal Ambulance. He had been found racing around and panicked on a major Melbourne road. He was shaking and whimpering, his eyes wide with fear.

Sunny’s physical condition was wretched to say the least. Our vets discovered he had a hernia, which required an operation to fix, while his matted coat and skin condition suggested he had suffered serious neglect.

He was desperately hungry, but when our animal attendants offered him food Sunny refused to eat. Still in shock over his experience, it took another day before he ate anything.

As Sunny didn’t have any identification on him, we had no way of contacting his owner to let them know that he was safe but that, sadly, their other dog had perished. As Sunny started to come out of his shell, the staff saw just how much this dog craved human contact and affection.

Our vets carried out the much needed hernia operation and Sunny was desexed, vaccinated, wormed and microchipped. When he regained his strength our adoption team focused on finding him a new loving home.

The staff at the Home are delighted that, shortly after being placed for adoption, Sunny was re-homed with a loving family. With another dog to play with, Sunny will spend this Christmas not only running around with his new friend, but with caring owners to spoil him.

If you would like to help cats and dogs like Sunny this Christmas, please donate now.
