Snoopy Back Home Thanks to Chip
Seabrook resident, Robert, was looking forward to a relaxing evening walk with his pet, Snoopy. This quickly transformed into a long, sleepless night when the five- year-old Beagle took off after a rabbit scent in a Point Cook paddock. Beagles are scent hounds and often use their keen sense of smell to pursue game - Snoopy is no exception.
Robert believed that Snoopy became disorientated after his rabbit chase and couldn’t find his way home.
“I searched for him for hours on end and was so distraught when I couldn’t find him. I eventually returned home, hoping Snoopy would eventually ‘sniff’ his way home,” said Robert.
Unable to rest, Robert drove out for a second time. He searched desperately for Snoopy as dusk sets across the plains of Point Cook. “It was very dark by then and impossible to see even his white flag-like tail waving above the grass”.
Reluctantly, Robert finally returned home and spent a restless night waiting for Snoopy’s familiar bark, unable to imagine where his beloved pet might be and what conditions he was spending the night in.
With dawn, Robert was hopeful of being reunited with Snoopy. His prayers were answered when he received a call from his daughter.
“Imagine my joy in the morning when my daughter, Laura, phoned me from Geelong telling me that Snoopy had been found and was in the care of your wonderful staff at the shelter in Gracie Street and awaiting collection”.
Robert realised that by keeping Snoopy’s registration details up-to-date and including his daughter’s number as a secondary contact, he had been reunited with Snoopy very quickly.
“My phone did not answer and so Laura was called as I had registered her number as an additional contact,” Robert shared with relief.
In no time, Robert arrived at The Lost Dogs' Home to “collect the errant Snoopy, paid the release fee and took the happy but confused dog home”.
“I confess that I was also errant in taking him for a run as the sun was beginning to set,” Robert admits, “I will not do that again, as once he gets on the scent of a rabbit he just forgets me!”
With Snoopy back where he belongs, Robert found time to reflect on the help he received from the Home.
“The National Pet Register is one of your most valuable services, and I want to thank all the staff at the Home for not only finding Snoopy, but for your continued care for all animals that are lost or abandoned”.
The Lost Dogs' Home thanks Robert for his kind support through his donation to the National Pet Register and for purchasing four Little Buckley toys for his grandchildren.
