From rags to riches: Stella

At just two months of age, Stella arrived at our Wingecarribee shelter along with her seven litter mates.

All eight pups were timid, very thin and full of worms and required ongoing veterinary attention to help them gain weight and become healthy.

Despite their rough start to life, all pups soon showed improvement and after a short while were able to be rehomed.

The whole litter arrived over the course of a week. The owner didn’t have suitable fences so the pups would follow mum out every time she escaped,” explained Alicia, Wingecarribee’s shelter manager.

We suspect there were multiple fathers of the litter going by the difference in appearance of all eight puppies.”

After a few weeks all but two of the pups had been adopted, leaving Stella and sister Lindel to wait for their forever homes.

When Lori and Darren visited Wingecarribee they immediately fell in love with cheeky Stella.

We couldn’t resist her sweet face. When we picked her up after she was desexed she greeted us like long lost friends. I call her my little girl and she shows us so much affection.” says Lori.

She bonded immediately with our Boxer Merlot and they’re now inseparable. They laze together on the lawn and share each others kennels. We just bought Stella a new kennel and wool mattress, and she has lots of pillows and blankets to keep her warm at night.

She’s visited my dad’s property, where she and Merlot had a ball racing around, before taking time out to soak up the sun.

Stella is very happy and we are thrilled to have her in our lives.”

The photos of Stella show her transformation from a neglected and wormy pup to a healthy and very much loved young adult dog.
