Traditionally the unluckiest day on the calendar, this Friday the 13th The Lost Dogs’ Home wants to dispel the myth that black cats bring bad luck.

“Often black cats and dogs take longer to rehome,” says General Manager Sue Conroy.

“For some reason black dogs and cats don’t have the same appeal as other animals, no matter how friendly they are.”

The freezing conditions didn’t affect the celebration at the Lost Dogs' Home today when Australia Post launched the ‘Adopted and Adored’ stamp issue, hosted by Network Ten’s Mike Larkan.

When the weather becomes cold and wet, it’s easy for owners to stop or reduce their dog’s walks. But if you do this, you run the risk of your typically placid pet becoming destructive out of boredom or escaping the back yard.

With so many abandoned and unwanted cats coming into the Home on a daily basis, staff like nothing better than to see them find a loving, new home.

Local family, the McGranns were looking for a new pet and fell in love with Arthur, a cat for adoption at the Home.

The Lost Cats’ Home is currently being built at The Lost Dogs' Home. Increasing numbers of stray cats and kittens taken in by the Home has meant that our feline friends require a purpose built shelter of their own.
