You know that feeling when you make a friend who is so wonderful, you just feel like throwing your arms around them and squealing ‘BFFs 4 LIFE!’?
Well that’s how The Lost Dogs’ Home feels about Best Friends Pet SuperCentres. Not only is this friend of ours extremely generous – recently donating 15 bags of dry cat food to the Home – but they have also been responsible for helping the Home adopt out close to 1000 kittens and cats!
“The Lost Dogs’ Home and Best Friends have been working together for almost two years now, in which time our cat adoption program has really skyrocketed,” Development Manager of The Lost Dogs’ Home Kate Hoelter said.
“Best Friends act as satellite adoption centres for our kittens and cats and we are fast approaching the 1000th feline to be adopted through the program. We are all looking forward to celebrating this milestone and both organisations are confident we will soon adopt 1000 more.”
Not your typical pet shop, Best Friends Pet SuperCentres encourage their customers to ‘think adoption first’. They don’t sell puppies or dogs, and all cats and kittens come from the Home. And with a new store opening in Melton at the end of July, that means even more adoptions to come!
“One of the best things about Best Friends is that they are focused on raising awareness on the benefits of adopting a shelter animal,” Kate said.
“It’s so refreshing to see a pet store that is making a conscious effort to not contribute to the alarming number of cats and dogs without homes in Australia.”
To top it off, Best Friends also regularly holds in-store events and promotions to raise funds for the Home, both in Melbourne and at their stores in Queensland. Recently their Maribyrnong store managed to raise $70 in donations during their recent ‘Feline Fanciers’ long weekend promotion. As the Home was running low on cat food at the time, we were able to gratefully spend the lot on food for our beautiful felines.
“We are so grateful to Best Friends for all their support,” Kate said. “It has been fantastic to have so many kittens adopted through our joint program and we look forward to working with the team from Best Friends for many years to come.”
