National Pet Register helps give young owner Ethan peace of mind

Rosie the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel was a special gift from Ethan’s Mum Jodie.

Rosie fell in love with Ethan immediately, which was brilliant, but she wanted to be with him so much that when he left the house, she’d do everything she could to get to him and she’s succeeded on more than one occasion!” said Jodie.

Ethan adores her so was understandably anxious and very upset when she escaped,” explained Jodie.

On one occasion the clever and determined Rosie made her way under the house and squeezed her body through a tiny gap near a heating duct.

After that day we registered Rosie with the National Pet Register for a free tag, which has been a Godsend.”

Rosie never travels very far but her National Pet Register collar tag means that anyone who finds her can take immediate action to reunite her with Ethan.

The National Pet Register’s 24/7 recovery call centre phone number is printed on the tag and, by quoting the unique ID number an operator can provide the finder with the pet owner’s contact information.

Pets like Rosie can be returned within a matter of minutes!

Pet owners should also microchip their pets and, in most states this is a legal requirement for dog and cat owners, as well as registering their pet with the local Council.

Microchips are permanent identification however to retrieve owner information, they need to be scanned in either a vet clinic or a pound. It’s important to have both a collar tag and a microchip and make sure contact information is always up to date.

Rosie has had one rather expensive visit to the pound which Jodie hopes is also her last! They are confident now that all of Rosie’s escape routes are blocked and she can be safely secured on their property. She also has some toys to entertain her.

But just in case, she always wears her National Pet Register tag.

The National Pet Register provides free collar ID tags for pets and reunites nationally over 200 dogs and cats through this important community service every week. To get your free National Pet Register tag go to petregister.com.au
