The National Pet Register helps bring Anna home safely

If organising an interstate trip with your pets to celebrate a family members eightieth birthday isn’t stressful enough, try losing your two dogs when you get there, then you’ll know exactly how Deborah and Stuart felt last January.

“We drove from our newly-bought unit in central Victoria to Sedan in South Australia where both our dogs, Grommet and Anna, went missing.” said Deborah.

Unsettled in the unfamiliar environment both dogs wandered off together and their owners spent hour after frantic hour looking for them, but Deborah’s ‘gut-instinct’ told her that neither of them were around.

“My husband and I are both Christian and I could just hear God telling me that Anna wasn’t on the property and we were wasting our time. We were shouting and whistling and clinking chains and their leads, but neither of them showed-up,” explained Deborah.

Days after the two dogs disappeared and after many phone calls and further fruitless searches, Grommet arrived at the front door of where the Lindholms were staying, only without Anna.

“We were relieved when Grommet showed-up but were still desperately worried about Anna” explained Deborah.

Eventually, Anna was found three days later roaming around a paintball skirmish field. To get there she had crossed a busy highway and had travelled over 15 kilometres. A very long way from home, she was only able to be reunited with Deborah and Stuart through her National Pet Register collar tag.

“The whole time they were gone I was just hoping that they wouldn’t lose their collars or their tags” said  Deborah.

If it weren’t for having their dogs registered with the National Pet Register, Anna might still be roaming the skirmish field, scared and alone in unknown surroundings and Deborah and Stuart may never have seen their beloved dog again.

“I love the National Pet Register to bits. I think it’s a fantastic system and gives you peace of mind knowing your animal can be returned by anyone that finds them,” said Deborah.

Every month, around Australia the National Pet Register reunites over 1000 lost pets with their relieved owners. To register your pets with the National Pet Register and get your free ID tag go www.petregister.com.au .
