Mini the spaniel cross melted the hearts of staff and volunteers at the Home’s shelter in Wingecarribee (located in the Southern Highlands of NSW). Found wandering on a property, she was taken to the shelter until her owner came forward to claim her.
Unfortunately, Mini’s owner decided to give up ownership of this sweet natured dog, who they had owned for over ten years.
Shelter Manager Jennie says that 11 year old Mini endeared herself to all who met her during her stay – including other dogs. “Mini was the ultimate ‘lady’; she was quiet, gentle-natured and sweet.”
Although a healthy, well-trained older dog, Mini waited weeks before she was adopted. Her new owner contacted us with an update on how Min Min (as she’s now known) is getting along. Min Min is feeling very much at home now and I hope feeling very loved. She has a real spring in her step and only this morning initiated a chasing game with my other dog.
She skips around the house and often just bounces up and down on the spot when she’s feeling extra happy or excited. She gets cuddles every morning before getting up and spends much of the day snoozing on my bed and looking out the front window.
She is currently wearing a rather lovely pink hoodie with black trim borrowed from her new little sister - Honey. She was a little cold with the massive temperature drop and was shivering so Honey (the Cavoodle) has had to share some of her wardrobe with her older sister.
Min Min sleeps on my bed (snoring her head off) all night. I bought her a snuggly bed but she is much happier lying close to me and if it makes her feel more settled, well then I’m happy too. She enjoys our walks through the park with Honey. She gets about a million hugs, pets, kisses, pats, tummy rubs and ‘good girl’ all day long.
She is eating well and after waiting for me to thump or kick the life out of her for the first fortnight I think she’s finally realised that she’s safe here and all she’ll ever get is a cuddle and a kiss. She still jumps and runs if she hears a loud noise or voice. She often jumps nervously when I put my hand on her to pet her. I suspect she has been mistreated by her previous owners. .
She is very reluctant to get out of the car so I suspect that was an opportunity for her previous owner to deliver some kind of ‘punishment’ to her. She spent the first week sleeping sitting up and just could NOT relax. That’s all changed now - she a very happy little doggie now.
She has been welcomed to my family with much excitement and gets along well with her cousins. She knows I’m her mum now and comes to me all day long for affection. She is never refused so I’m sure she and I are now devoted to each other. She is curled in a log-like lump, a mix of pink/black/white at my feet, occasionally letting out a huge bear- like snore. Min Min is hugely loved and she knows it. She has really come home.
Thought you might like to know how happy we all are but most importantly, how happy Min Min is. If she could speak she would say, “Thankyou so much for taking me in, giving me love, being my friend and advocate, taking care of me, walking me, feeding me and finding me a new and very loving home”.
Much love and thanks to you all for bringing such a beautiful girl into my life.
Georgie
