Microchip brings run-off Rosey home every time

Having an escape artist for a dog keeps the Dickson’s on their toes. They soon came to realise that their two-year-old Fox Terrier, Rosey, runs away for attention, just like a delinquent teenager!

Weekends are ‘Rosey time’, according to Mum Lynda, and the Dickson’s pooch gets very stroppy when Mum and Dad aren’t home to dish out the desired level of pats.

During the week she is fine, and doesn’t tend to escape too much, but it’s on the weekends when my husband and I go out together and don’t take her that she gets antsy and tries to escape. Sadly for us, she almost always manages to,” laughed Lynda.

Rosey stops at nothing to teach Lynda and her husband a lesson for not taking her along on their outings, with scaling the backyard fence, squeezing through gaps and climbing obstacles being her favourite methods of escape.

We have done everything to make our backyard escape-proof, but she keeps managing to get out and we just don’t know how,” explained Lynda.

Thankfully, Rosey has been microchipped and she wears a National Pet Register ID tag. Her details are stored with The Lost Dogs’ Home’s National Pet Register. Every time she goes missing, nice citizens do their part by phoning the National Pet Register and letting us know they have her. The National Pet Register operates a 24/7 Pet Recovery Centre to ensure pets can be reunited with their owners if they are found by Good Samaritans on the street.

We’re always telling other people to make sure they have their dogs microchipped because it saves so much worry. It’s the best thing we’ve had done,” said Lynda.

The Lost Dogs Home’ encourages pet owners who have escaping dogs to consult a dog trainer or a vet for advice.

Free collar ID tags are available from The National Pet Register.
