The Lost Dogs' Home Winter Appeal 2009

Stray, neglected, sick and abandoned animals are arriving here every day, and we are turning to our kind supporters to help us raise $421,420 by 12th June to see the Home through another busy winter period.

You’ll be helping us care for animals like Nala, a shy, young dog who, given her age, we believe was given to someone as a gift last Christmas.

Nala was found wandering near a busy street and brought back to the Home, where she received urgent medical care. She had a hernia, which must have been giving her a lot of discomfort and required surgery; and an untreated skin condition, common in neglected animals. We also discovered that she had given birth very recently.

We will never know exactly what happened to Nala before she was found and brought into the Home.

It’s unlikely that she would have left her puppies on her own accord, especially so soon after giving birth.

Like so many of the cats and especially dogs admitted to the Home at this time of year, it appears that Nala had become a burden to her owners – they either deliberately abandoned her, or simply didn’t look for her when she went missing. She had no identification, and was not microchipped, so there was no way for the Home to trace her owners.

This year thousands of cats and dogs like Nala will need the care and protection we can give them, thanks to caring individuals like you.

Nala has been fostered and has been warmly welcomed into her new foster family of cats and dogs.

Her foster mum, Louise, tells us:

“She’s a real sweetie and she’ll do anything for a belly rub. She loves to go on long walks and wriggles with joy when she meets other dogs. She loves company and receiving the care and attention every animal deserves. Even though she has been through a lot, she is gentle and trusting and has a real sense of fun. She just needs kindness.”

The Lost Dogs’ Home is working hard to prevent cats and dogs like Nala from ending up on the streets, unwanted, traumatised and at risk of disease, injury or death.

Please donate now so that we can help the Home care for all the animals who will need us this winter.

Thank you.
