When nine-month-old Leon the Rottweiler Kelpie cross arrived at The Lost Dogs' Home as an abandoned and scared pup, little did he know he would find a lifetime friend so soon.
When John walked past Leon's adoption pen and saw the pup's longing eyes, he was immediately sold. Ever since, John and Leon have been by each other's sides, sharing life's experiences as best mates do.
"He loves his walk and loves going down to the dam with me to see the ducks. He's so big he doesn't realise he scares them all away. He tries to catch up to them but his gangly legs don't work that fast".
"Leon loves coming in the car with me for drives up to Warburton to play with my Mum's little dog. He also loves playing tug of war with my daughter. He tries to play with the cats but they don't take too kindly to his lunges of affection. He's such a gentle giant".
Staff at the Home are pleased to know Leon has found a lifelong friend in John and a comfortable place to call home. Leon even curls up in John's bed on cold winter nights; amusingly he sleeps on his back like a human! Leon still gets over excited when visitors arrive, but with some training, he'll learn to curtail his exuberant nature.
"Leon will be happy for a long time here and you won't be seeing him again!!! I still miss my other dog WOOF who I had for 15 years but Leo has filled up an empty spot in my life and I think I have done the same for him".
The team at The Lost Dogs' Home are delighted that Leon has found not only a safe home, but a lifetime friend in John.
We hope all of the dogs and cats in our care find loving homes where they can live out their days happily and safely.
