Trade in your stuffy office, debilitating desk, and glowing computer screen and learn to love lunchtime again with a serene walk in the park with our adoptable dogs for the second Human Walking Program on Friday, November 21!
Lace up your runners and join us at the Treasury Gardens in Melbourne from 12 to 2pm for a walk and play with a shelter dog seeking a home.
“We are really excited to bring back this event,” said General Manger of Shelter Operations, Sue Conroy. “It is the true meaning of a win, win situation – our dogs love it, they find homes, while office workers stretch their legs and consider the merits of adopting!”
Studies have shown the average working hours of full-time employees in Australia are long and have been steadily getting longer which is contributing to extra stress, poor family relations and a lower quality of social relationships.
Attracting worldwide attention, the first Human Walking Program in April this year was launched in a bid to encourage healthy living with an adopted companion animal. The event was a success with all 12 dogs at the event adopted, while our other shelter dogs also felt the love in the lead up and after the event.
“The response was astounding. People from all over the world were captivated by the concept of shelter dogs doing the rescuing – many enquiries came through to start similar events, particularly in the USA.
“Overall, it was amazing to see the knock on positive effects on our dog adoptions and to see our shelter dogs do the rescuing,” Ms Conroy concluded.
