“Often black cats and dogs take longer to rehome,” says General Manager Sue Conroy.
“For some reason black dogs and cats don’t have the same appeal as other animals, no matter how friendly they are.”
However some cultures believe that black cats provide good luck, including the English, Scottish, Indian and Japanese.
Sooty, a young domestic short hair is currently at The Lost Dogs’ Home as a stray. With no one coming forward to claim him, Cat Shelter attendant Erin hopes for a turnaround in his fortunes.
“He’s a lovely cat – nothing seems to faze him and he’s quite the purrer. Sooty will soon be looking for a new home where we’re sure he’ll be loved and well cared for.”
The Lost Dogs’ Home currently has cats of all shapes, sizes and colours available to adopt from its shelters in North Melbourne, Wingecarribee (NSW) and Echuca, as well as through Best Friends Pet SuperCentres in Thomastown, Geelong, Hoppers Crossing and Maribyrnong.
All cats are desexed, vaccinated, wormed and microchipped (and we believe only bring good luck!).
