Denny is looking for a new home. Update 13/8/09: Has been adopted!

Handsome five year old Shih Tzu -  mix Denny arrived at The Lost Dogs’ Home with a filthy, matted and overgrown coat. After a full body clip, he is now available for adoption.

Adorable and irresistible as puppies, breeds such the Maltese, Shih Tzus, Poodles and their various mixes are some of the most popular breeds in Australia, but they are also among the  most neglected and dumped dogs.

Renowned for their temperament, brightness and suitability for many lifestyles, these dogs can make the perfect pet, however their coat requires a commitment to grooming. This could explain the high rate of abandonment.

Out of the fifty lost, stray and unwanted dogs The Lost Dogs’ Home takes in each day on average, these breeds make up a high percentage of the admissions. The majority of them will not be immediately recognisable, due to severely matted and clumped hair.

Handsome five year old Shih Tzu mix Denny is just one example of these neglected dogs. Currently for adoption, Denny required a full body clip due to the sorry state his previous owner left him in.

Denny’s coat had not been groomed for at least a few years. As a result, he is suffering a slight skin irritation, which is being treated and will clear up,” says the Home’s Sue Conroy.

He’s a lovely, cruisey boy and is happy to be around people. His new owner needs to commit time to ensure his coat is kept maintained and groomed, but they’ll receive a loyal and loving pet in return.”

Denny is available to adopt from our North Melbourne shelter, and is desexed, vaccinated, microchipped, wormed and health checked. Please call (03) 9329 2755 and quote tag number 841899 if you would like to adopt him.
