The Lost Cats’ Home is currently being built at The Lost Dogs’ Home. Increasing numbers of stray cats and kittens taken in by the Home has meant that our feline friends require a purpose built shelter of their own. The new Lost Cats’ Home will provide state of the art care and will contain specially designed ‘Cat Condominiums’ to house stray and unwanted cats. Offering individual ventilation and ensuites for litter trays the ‘Cat Condos’ will not only provide more comfortable accommodation but keep the cats healthier as the opportunity for cross contamination of viruses like cat flu is virtually eliminated.
It is hoped that the new Lost Cats’ Home will also raise awareness for the high number of lost cats at the Home and will lead to more owners coming forward to claim them. Too many cats go missing and way too many are not identified with a microchip or identification tag. It is vital that you microchip your cat, a microchip holds the key to an owners’ contact information. Each cat’s microchip has an identification code which links to the owner’s details on the National Pet Register (http://www.petregister.com.au), a nationwide database service. If your cat is found and taken to a shelter, they will be scanned for a microchip and providing you details have been kept up to date, you will be contacted to collect your lost cat.
Cat microchipping is a quick, inexpensive procedure which could ensure that your cat isn’t one of the thousands admitted to the Home each year that go unclaimed. Cat microchipping can be carried out at The Lost Dogs’ Home Veterinary Clinic. For more information or to arrange an appointment visit our website at /services .
