Building update at The Lost Dogs' Home

Animals and staff alike have become accustomed to the increased activity coming from every direction at Gracie Street as three major building projects continue.

Directly opposite The Lost Dogs' Home, at 13 Gracie Street, The Thelma Hoult Training and Education Centre is edging closer to completion.

The roof is on, the façade is done and soon the glazing and front door will be installed. After which, internal works will commence.

Largely funded by Mrs Thelma Hoult’s bequest, the Training and Education Centre is expected to be finished by the end of the year.

The Helen Macpherson Smith Trust generously gave a $25,000 grant for running programs (including foster care, responsible pet ownership for schools and community groups, external animal welfare professionals and Home staff training), whilst the Ken and Asle Chilton Charitable Trust, via Perpetual, very kindly gave $6,195 towards the purchase of audio visual equipment for the Centre.

Next door to The Lost Dogs' Home, at 54 Gracie Street, internal works on The Lost Cats’ Home continue.

180 cat condos will soon be installed to make up the new Cats’ Home – housing all of the 12,000 cats and kittens that we take in at North Melbourne and Cranbourne.

The Lost Cats’ Home will be fully operational by the start of 2011 and has only been made possible thanks to our extremely generous donors.

The Stan and Helen Moore Sick and Injured Shelter will be located at the rear of our Gracie Street premises. Old communal dog pens were razed earlier in the year to make way for the state-of-the-art shelter, which will house all elderly, sick and injured stray dogs.

The foundation has been laid and steel frame work will begin shortly.

Funded by our wonderful supporters, the Sick and Injured Shelter will be finished by the end of 2010. The veterinary treatment suite within it is sponsored by our ‘Friends of PAWs’ supporters.
