Bequests & Planned Giving

If you want to provide lasting help for lost, neglected and abandoned cats and dogs leaving a gift in your Will to The Lost Dogs’ Home is a great way to make a difference.

By doing so, you will help safeguard the future of one of the most important animal welfare organisations in the country and the 25,000 dogs and cats we help every year.

You will not only contribute to the building of new facilities such as new cat and dog shelters, the purchase of new animal ambulances and veterinary equipment, but to ensuring that the Home remains a leader in the provision of animal welfare services Australia wide.

Your gift will help educate people about responsible pet ownership and support us in lobbying to legislate on important animal welfare issues, providing a voice for all the vulnerable animals who cannot speak out.

For almost 100 years we have relied on the generosity and belief of our supporters to help us grow and become an invaluable community asset.

By making a residual gift in your Will to the Home, you will help continue this tradition and ensure that animals born now or in the future have an organisation to provide them with quality care and the chance of returning to or finding a new loving home if they become abandoned, lost, sick or injured.

To assist you in writing your bequest we have developed the following recommended wording to include in your Will.

Recommended wording to bequeath a gift

A residuary legacy is a popular choice because it maintains the relative value of your gift in comparison to the value received by the other beneficiaries under your Will. It also automatically adjusts to changes in the value of your estate.

A residuary legacy is what is left of your estate after all your other wishes have been carried out and expenses in finalising your estate have been met.

Such a gift is commonly stated as a percentage of the residue. For example ‘I give The Lost Dogs’ Home, 2 Gracie Street, North Melbourne VIC 3051, (insert amount) % of my residuary estate.’

Bequeathing a pet to The Lost Dogs’ Home

As we get older the thought of what will happen to our beloved animal companions should they out live us can be a real cause for concern.

If this is a worry for you, then you may wish to consider making a provision in your Will to leave your dog or cat to the care of The Lost Dogs’ Home.
