Beau, a four year old male Poodle first arrived at the Home with years of coat growth, resulting in a severely matted coat which had formed a solid barrier around his body.
Now called Beau, when this four year old male Poodle first arrived at the Home he was anything but handsome: years of coat growth resulted in a severely matted coat which had formed a solid barrier over his body.
Beau was neither tagged nor microchipped, so locating the person responsible for Beau’s shocking condition was impossible. Due to the state of neglect he arrived in, it was unlikely his previous owner would take the time or trouble to search for him.
His overgrown hair had irritated Beau’s eyes as it grew over his face and he was also suffering from severe ear infections.
Beau underwent a full body clip and bath before having a vet check. Prescribed antibiotics to help clear up his eye and ear infections, vets also noticed Beau required surgery to rectify luxating patellas (a common complaint in small to medium breed dogs, in which the dog’s kneecap moves or dislocates out of place). This surgery will be carried out next week at the Home.
Surgery will require Beau to be hospitalised for five days. He will then be fostered during his recovery.
Staff have been amazed by Beau’s transformation as the photos here show. He is a wonderful, bright and happy dog who has embraced his new look and will soon be ready for his new home.
After fostering, we will have a better idea of what type of home Beau will need. At this stage we are unable to accept any adoption enquiries for him, however we will continue to post updates on www.dogshome.com.
