Acupuncture has been widely used in Australia for dogs and cats for the last 30 years.

The beauty of acupuncture is that it works with the body to aid healing and provide natural pain relief by stimulating the immune system and different neurotransmitters in the brain. It can also be used in conjunction with western medicine so it doesn’t have to be a case of choosing one or the other.

Acupuncture is most effective with musculoskeletal issues such as arthritis, back pain, compressed discs and muscular injuries. It is also very helpful in cases of female dogs with urinary incontinence. Care needs to be taken with animals who have cancer or are pregnant. It is most effective in animals that don’t have a strong fear or aggressive response in the vet clinic as animals may produce stress hormones that can negate the effect of acupuncture.

If you think you have an animal that will respond to acupuncture then book an appointment to see VetsCaroline Butler or Jo Chan who are our trained acupuncturists to discuss treatment options.
