The 84th annual Academy Awards is fast approaching and while the rest of the world is buzzing over who will take home the golden statue – Brad or George? Meryl or Michelle? – The Lost Dogs’ Home is busy planning our own awards ceremony – the 1st annual aCATemy awards!
See, while Clooney may have eyes that make both men and women alike go weak at the knees, we’re pretty sure Avalon from Echuca could out-stare him any day! And so what if Meryl Streep has been nominated for an Oscar 17 times and won twice – Bianca from North Melbourne can play soccer! We doubt Ms Streep could claim the same.
To celebrate our fantastic felines and all their quirks, we are giving our supporters the chance the vote on who they think should take home the 1st ever aCATemy award. To vote, simply ‘Like’ our Facebook page and leave a comment nominating which puddy cat you think deserves the crowning glory. By nominating, you go into the draw to win a cat lovers dream basket, chock full of goodies that will keep your feline happy for a very long time!
Then on Monday, February 27 (when the Oscars screen in Australia) we will announce the victorious kitty and select a winner of the prize pack from amongst the entrants. So get voting now!
The Nominees (in alphabetical order)
Avalon
- 2 year old female
- Domestic Short Hair x
- Echuca, VIC
- ID: 901619
Most beautiful cat award: Stunning Avalon is a very sweet young lady with lots of love to share. With her beautiful personality and unique looks, Avalon is one-of-a-kind and will make a loving and loyal companion for any sized family.
Bianca
- 4 month old female
- Domestic Short Hair x
- North Melbourne, VIC
- ID: 900665
Most active kitty award: If Bianca had her own way, every day would be PLAY DAY! She would be well suited to a home where she has plenty of toys to keep her busy, as she has a lot of energy to burn! Ideally we’d like to find her an owner who delights in kitten mischief and will keep her entertained.
Datsun
- 4 year old male
- Domestic Short Hair x
- Moss Vale, NSW
- ID: 900406
Most chilled out dude award: Datsun is a typical, big boofy boy with a laid back and chilled personality. He likes to move his massive 6.3kg frame from one warm, sunny spot to another and that’s about all he’s interested in – that, and food of course! He doesn’t suffer fools so would be best suited in a one-cat household or else with another friendly female cat.
Gina
- 1 year old female
- Domestic Short Hair x
- Bracken Ridge, QLD
- ID: 898651
Purr machine award: Gina is an absolute sweetheart who loves hanging out with human folk but also likes time to herself to explore. She is very responsive when patted; the V8-engine purring begins the moment you start! We think our lovely Gina would adjust well in any home environment that is seeking a little extra love!
Pumpkin
- 2 year old female
- Domestic Medium Hair x
- Bracken Ridge, QLD
- ID: 896124
Lady of luxury award: Beautiful Pumpkin is a sweet and smoochy cat who likes lots of rest and relaxation. She is an easy-going cat looking for a family to love. This gorgeous girl has a fluffy coat that will need regular grooming to keep it in tip-top condition.
Rose
- 6 year old female
- Domestic Short Hair x
- Echuca, VIC
- ID: 897056
Miss Independent award: Initially shy of new surroundings, Rose soon adjusts and reveals her lovely personality. She likes nothing more than to sit back and take the world in from the comfort of her soft bed. She enjoys a smooch but being a tortoiseshell, she also like things her own way and will let you know when she wants her personal space. Cats need privacy too, you know!
Smoky
- 1 year old male
- Domestic Short Hair x
- North Melbourne, VIC
- ID: 901605
The Dr Jekyll/ Mr Hyde award: Poor old Smoky. Having been at the North Melbourne shelter for quite some time, this beautiful big boy has gone from being the king of smooch town to a rebel without a cause. Bored of his life here, Smoky tries to engage anyone who greets him in a game of play fighting – which isn’t always the best first impression. When he first arrived at the Home, Smoky was as calm and sweet as they come. We’re looking for someone who can get him out of his predicament – and winning the coveted aCATemy award may see him get his wish!
Soraya
- 2 year old female
- Domestic Short Hair x
- Moss Vale, NSW
- ID: 896468
Comedian of the Year Award: Soraya is hilarious and keeps all the shelter staff in hysterics with her antics. She started off quite a shy little thing but is far from that now! She is your typical Torti – loves to run around crazily and play games but will also jump on your lap for a smooch. She is only a small girl but has proved ok with other friendly female cats. However Soraya hates dogs so she should only go to a home with no pooches.
Please follow us on Facebook and start voting now! Not only are you giving some much-needed publicity to these beautiful felines but you could also win a fantastic goodie basket. However even that prize pales in comparison to the ultimate prize of taking home one of these beautiful creatures. Each of them is currently up for adoption and how many people can say they own an award-winning cat? If you’re interested, please call their <respective shelters to enquire.
“And the aCATemy award goes to…”
Stay tuned on Monday to find out!
